The impact of the EPB certificate in Brussels

In Brussels too, the importance of the EPB certificate continues to grow. Buyers are paying more and more attention to the energy performance of homes. Properties with a poor energy rating sell much less well than those with an A or B rating. One reason for this is higher energy costs.

In addition, the Brussels government - following the example of Flanders - has decided to introduce an obligation to renovate. By 2033, the most energy-intensive homes will have to be renovated. In concrete terms, all homes will have to achieve at least an E label. Homes with an F or G label will therefore be gradually phased out. From 2045, a minimum C label will be required. This will be a real challenge, as a large proportion of Brussels' heritage was built before 1945 - many buildings are not even insulated yet.
